Las Palmas, west set festival
& Melbourne International Jazz Festival
Footscray Library, Footscray

Footscray Library re-imagined as a Cuban/Latin Jazz bar - ”Las Palmas” hosted a curated line-up of live Latin, Cuban, Ethio, Brazilian Jazz, as well as Afro-beat, Reggae, Ethio Funk and more.

Inspired by 1940s/50s Cuban architecture and street style, drawing on the colour palette, graphics, artwork, signage, furniture and fittings found in Havana hotels, the streets, lounges and bars. The forecourt of the historic Daryl Jackson designed building was transformed into a lively Cuban-styled lounge, with Ethiopian flourishes to reflect the local community & jazz vibes.

“Las Palmas” presented live entertainment and Latin themed food and cocktails, within an overall colourful Cuban/Caribbean ambience, including a stage, dance floor, bar and seating/lounging areas designed with a vintage Havana influenced theme.

Produced in partnership with Melbourne International Jazz Festival, as part of the City of Maribyrnong free live music festival “west set”.
